Full name: Marc Alan Willers
Nickname: Willy
Born: September 11, 1985 in Cambridge
Relationship status: Living the dream!
Kids: None that I'm aware of

Where are you based?
I'm based out of Murrieta California which is a hot spot for BMX and FMX riders. I used to live at my old sponsors' house, Redman Bikes, who had his own BMX track in his back yard.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Winning my first World Cup Supercross race in France in 2007.

What has been the biggest setback of your career?
I dislocated my shoulder last year. I tore the labrum and pulled it off the bone. I tried to ride through it for six months but it kept popping out during races. But my results and my riding after surgery are way better than they were before it happened so I'm not sure if you would call it a setback.

How strong is BMX in New Zealand?
For a small country it is a big scene. I'd say per capita New Zealand would be up near the top in terms of the number of licensed riders. Most of the younger age groups have strong riders who are capable of being in the mix at world champs. We just need to keep them in the sport and improving until they reach the pro class.

What are the facilities like for BMX in New Zealand?
They are constantly getting better and better. We are lucky to have a country highly involved in sport and the local councils recognise our needs.

What do you enjoy about your sport?
The fact that it's not just a performance based sport and there are so many ways to win a race.

What do you hate about your sport?
The fact that it's not just a performance based sport and there are so many ways to win a race.

Do you have any pre-race rituals?
I wouldn't call it a ritual but I'm very fidgety when I'm on the start gate. I'm constantly scratching my face and making sure my gloves feel comfortable.

Do you have a regular pre-match meal?
Just whatever I can stomach. I'm always trying to find what works for me.

Do you have a regular post-race treat?
A toss up between cookies and a Double Double burger from In-n-Out, an American fast food joint — amazing!

What are your sporting ambitions?
To be World and Olympic champion.

When in doubt go flat out.

Motorsport especially drag racing and drifting.
