What is the highlight of your career?
Silver at the Athens Olympics in 2004.

What was the biggest setback of your career?
Nothing really (touch wood). All my setbacks have been constructive in some way; I've learnt from them and become a better athlete because of them.

What is your favourite discipline (ie. swim, bike or run)?
Probably running, I come from a running background and it is something that comes naturally to me.

What do you enjoy about your sport?
There's nothing better than running down the finishing straight in first place. It makes all the hours/weeks/months and years of training worth it.

What do you hate about your sport?
The constant fatigue and the physical and mental drain. I hate waking up most mornings feeling worse than I did when I went to bed. Finally there's nothing worse than a cold rainy day and your coach has a five-hour bike ride on the program.

Do you have any pre-race rituals?
No sex 72 hours before a race, although maybe I have broken that a few times!

Do you have a regular pre-race meal?
Pizza the night before.

Do you have a post-race treat?
Depends on the race and the prize purse, but if I win a big race I like to get the latest electronic device, it doubles as an incentive going into the race.

What sporting ambitions have you left to achieve?
I have everything except an Olympic gold medal, so it would have to be that.

What is the best advice you've received?
Happy wife, happy life.

What is your most embarrassing sporting moment?
I broke my chain going up a steep climb in a race in Tasmania. However I couldn't unclip as I had track locks on my pedals and I basically flopped onto the road still stuck to my bike in front of hundreds of people.

What are your favourite other sports?
NASCAR, Formula 1, Cycling.

What is your favourite sporting moment or memory?
Probably Usain Bolt's 100m in Beijing.

Are there any sports you can't watch?
I'll watch anything given the right match, race, or fight. However I think a lot of sports are over exposed, so switch off pretty quickly unless it is an important game.

Who are your sporting heroes?
Bert Munro

Any non-sporting heroes?
Bert Munro

What is your favourite website?
Failblog.org

What is your favourite TV show?
Spartacus: Blood and Sand (starring our very own Lucy Lawless). I'm not too sure if it has been on New Zealand television yet but it was filmed there.

What are your favourite movies?
Pulp Fiction, Elf, Step Brothers. However, I generally watch The World's Fastest Indian before an important race. It gets me in the right frame of mind.

Music.

Do you prefer CDs or downloads?
Downloads.

What is the best gig you've been to?
Kings of Leon at Red Rocks in Colorado.

What was the last album you bought (or downloaded)?
Never thought I'd like his stuff, but I did download some of Adam Lambert's (American Idol runner-up) music recently. Whaddya want from me!

What was the last book you read (or borrowed)?
Wow. It was so long ago, I can't remember.

What car do you drive?
Holden Club Sport R8 in NZ, and Lincoln Navigator in the US.

What is your dream car?
Bugatti Veyron. You've got to dream.

Do you wear Speedos or shorts?
Speedos for training, shorts for the beach.

Do you prefer beer or wine?
Sav.

Do you prefer chips or chocolate?
Chocolate.

What would you be doing if you weren't a triathlete?
Engineer.

Where do you see yourself in five year's time?
I haven't looked past the next Olympics.
