Would you pay for it?

Prostitute
Thinkstock
I've never slept with a prostitute. Yes, I've thought about it (we all have, right?), but never gone through with it — I've fallen well short every time. I know people that happily visit hookers and although I rarely broach the topic with them, we agree to disagree on our stances.

The thing is, once you put any moral issues or health related concerns aside, there are two pretty interesting arguments here.

My gripe with prostitution is this — how could you possibly pay for something that should be free? And, what is the point in having sex with someone that doesn't entirely want to be there?

Those two issues have always stopped me and will continue to do so. I can't be swayed, although I must admit, the defences I've heard are compelling.

Some guys would argue we pay for sex every time we do it. By the time you've met a girl, taken her out on a few dates, bought her a thoughtful gift and finally gone to bed with her, you've spent a fair bit of money. So what is wrong with using a prostitute and cutting to the chase?

Okay, that seems somewhat logical, but it's also pretty warped and disgusting. The time spent with the girl in this scenario obviously isn't valued at all, and the "dates" were merely a means to an end, which I find insincere.

The lack of emotional connection and romance also doesn't bother some men. While I have an issue having sex with someone as a business transaction, others do not. Their argument is that we mostly work jobs every day that we don't enjoy much, and our bosses pay us, so why should sex be any different? It's the same deal in a different situation.

This is also a pretty miserable — if not liberating — way of looking at the topic. If anything, these guys are upfront and honest about what they want. They're not using girls in a deceitful way, or trying to pose as an unlucky in love bachelor on a dating site just to get laid. They are paying for a service straight up.

I understand that, but even with that mindset I'd still feel like a failure.

Perhaps English television personality and author Jeremy Clarkson put it best in his latest book How hard can it be?. When discussing prostitution Clarkson writes, "Nothing says you've failed in life quite so neatly as a need to spend your evening bouncing up and down on six stone of Estonian skin and bone."

I nodded and smiled when I'd read that. Sure, you've slept with a hottie, but did she want to be there? What have you accomplished? Do you feel better about yourself? I'm doubtful you do.

Regardless of who the woman is and how or where you've solicited her services, the finale is always the same. You've paid for sex, and I don't think this should be about money any way you try and justify it.

Is it ever okay to pay for sex? Under what circumstances? Have your say below.

There are a number of reasons why I visit sex workers - but really it is the enjoyment of choosing someone to have sex with, from internet or at a parlour. I enjoy watching the lady strip, or helping, knowing that I will be having sex with her soon. I enjoy getting naked with a stranger, and being in front of her naked with an erection. I enjoy seeing and touching new bodies and trying sex activities. I enjoy having sex for an hour purely for enjoyement, and then not having any baggage to deal with. I enjoy having a strangers handor mouth on my ***.

Mr Bean I guess you have never married or have a stable girlfriend or even kids. The way you describe yourself and enjoying the different Hookers. Its your choice and no one elses.Dont forget to put someting at the end of it,for protection lol.
I have the most wonderful relationship with the most beautiful elite escort. When I need total affection and pleasure without any hassals, she is the most awesome part of my life and is very classy. I feel magnificent after each session. 2 hours of top glamour and exquisite sex. All positions and all extras are just fine. Probably the best decision I have ever made. I visit the same escort for over three years now. She is always impeccably presented, willing and an absolute delight. I would love to be in a full on relationship, but know that my sex sessions would deteriorate if this happened. She is happy, I am happy and we get on amazingly well.
I am getting a little bit sick of the prostitution is the oldest profession in the world defence. Logically it is one of the many oldest - like farming, doctors, hunting, making the tribes tools etc etc. Futhermore why do people hark back to the good old days like they had all the good ideas - ie if they did it then we should too? People, they believed the world was flat, that if you bled a sick person they got better and a whole lot of other stuff that we now know to be particularly stupid. Please stop saying that dumb argument (its the oldest profession in the world therefore we should still do it), its an illogical defence. Unless you think we should all go back to worrying about sailing off the edge of the world of course...
Paying for sex is legalized abuse of the more vulnerable memebers of society. If you think that is okay you are a selfish non-caring person who doesnt think about the effects your actions might have on others in terms of their self-esteem etc. Because the power imbalance it can never be truly consensual...Men who do this sort of thing are yuk!!!
Because women hold all the cards this makes for an idiotic argument altogether. Beautiful, ambitious women take advantage of men's wants and make them pay up front or at the bar, either way they pay. That's sexual satisfaction. Other less physically desirable women take advantage of men's emotional needs and make them pay in marriage, with children, etc. and also use sex to control "their man". be he rich, a god or anything, he will always be strung along as though a starving child with chronic pain. "respect" is always the card being played, there is none. In other words all women are disrespectful, sadistic little ***. If men did not need sex they would not need women. Luckily for us men, women also have a weakness. They're greedy to the max and are willing to sell out their whole being, body and soul, for whatever they need at the time, be it money or the need for control. Wake up, get off your ***, get rich and get anything and everything you want, hopefully it's not too late.
Unfortunatly it is a mans basic need to have sex, and I'm HOPING that prostitution will lower rape statistics. However, your fooling yourself if you think the prostitutes enjoy you. THEY WANT YOUR MONEY. They are acting. And most of the time, according to the poor women I've met in this business, end up on drugs and alcahol to numb the emotional pain they've had to go through and usually end up leaving after a short period of time. Just emagine the types of guys they would have had to sleep with. Obviously types that can't get sex... But, it was their choice to begin with, and their bodies. I don't disagree with prostitution, however the age should be raised to 21 if it isn't already. 18 years old? Are you kidding?? Her mind hasn't fully developed yet!!! But anywayy...
Prostitutes do an honest job & as my grandmother once said 'they keep my girls safe' as in if there were no prostitutes then rape would be an epidemic ! now that's not fiction it's reality ! .
I wonder what the men who support prostitution would think if their daughter was one. or thier sisters, or if they found out their wives had been to a male prositute. would they think its all fine and dandy then?
It is an interesting subject. I am a woman. and I have had many friends and family members who have been prostitutes. I havent myself. but Ive heard alot about it. Firstly. men are fooling themselves if they think they are satisfying a prostitute. unless they are the first client of the night. the truth is they fake orgasm, and unless the guy looks like brad pitt, chances are, the woman is there for the money. end of story. Having said that, my sisters etc have mentioned nice repeat clients. they usually are just normal everyday guys who dont have much self esteem and havent met the right girl yet. not many special needs people actually visit prostitutes, most would need someone with them, and could you imagine the trouble someone could get for taking a special needs person to a prostitute?! At the end of the day. Its the mans money, and the womans body and they can do with it what they like. but I am in my 40s and never been single, but if I was, I could never use a male giggalo
There is nothing wrong with using the services of a sex worker. Before I got married I was always having sex with my wife to be About 3 years after we got married she decided that sex could stop. I have needs so I have visted a sex worker for the last almost 25 years. They provide a service that men like me really need. My wife has never asked me how get on as far as sex is concerned So I say thank you to "those" ladies.!
